Aberdeen is the third largest city in Scotland and is the base of North Sea oil exploration. The city is aptly named The Granite City because of the local stone used in the buildings. It is a prosperous city with plenty of historical building and associated culture. The skyline of Aberdeen is memorable.
The city is a coastal city influenced by the North Sea weather. The city has a thriving harbor and this seafaring tradition is evident throughout the city. Granite architecture includes buildings such as Marishal College, St. Machar’s Cathedral, His Majesty’s Theatre. Old Aberdeen is a historical area and old the fishing village of Footdee is well worth a visit.
Aberdeen is a past winner of ‘Britain in Bloom’ and flowers are everywhere. Be sure ti visit an Aberdeen florist to get an idea of the range. At any time in the city there can be two million roses, eleven million daffodils, three million crocuses on display!! The Winter Gardens located at Duthie Park includes the amazing Rose Mountain. Flowers bloom here all year round.
Aberdeen is a modern city with a rich history. It has an active cultural calendar which includes theatre, shows, nightclubs, restaurants and other attractions. This makes the city an ideal vacation spot.
