Ibiza’s Famed Nightlife
Posted on December 21, 2008 - Filed Under Travel
While the island of Ibiza has worked hard in recent years to shed its reputation as a party island, it is still best known for its incredible nightlife. Yes, the island is full of scenic beauty, historical monuments, and has even added family attractions such as a water park, train excursions, and an aquarium and some small resorts and inland areas are now catering to family vacations. However, the island famous as the birthplace of the rave still has a thriving life after dark.
Most of the (in)famous nightlife is centered on the cities of Ibiza Town and Sant Antoni de Portmany. Ibiza town is the island’s capital and is situated on the southern shore while Sant Antoni is located on the west coast. Clubs in these cities have developed their own individual style and may be known for hosting specific parties. Es ParadÃs is known for water parties, Space as an afterparty destination, and Amnesia for its foam parties.
The summer party season begins with opening parties in June at a few of the premier clubs and continues through the closing parties of the first weekend in October. At the height of the season, you’ll find internationally-known DJs performing on a weekly schedule. Ibiza clubs are known to be an ideal audience for trying out new techno, trance, and house songs and these DJs will premiere new electronic dance music throughout the season.
The various restaurants, bars, and other eateries are attuned to the clubbers schedule that prevails during the summer. They will offer breakfast at lunchtime for those who sleep until noon and serve dinner until at least midnight. Some locations are famous for their views of the gorgeous Ibiza sunset.
When planning your stay on the island, remember that other than the summer high season, the island is fairly deserted of tourists the rest of the year and most clubs will be closed from October through May. Accomodations throughout the year range from private cottage rentals to Ibiza’s 5 star hotels. Most of the lodgings in the cities provide easy access to the many clubs, bars, and restaurants that make Ibiza an exciting vacation spot.
