IPL Final To Be Held in Johannesburg

The new schedule for IPL will see the final match held at the Wanderers in Johannesburg, South Africa on May 24, 2009. Johannesburg will also host semi-final play, with the other semi-final being held in Pretoria.
The IPL, which was moved from India due to security concerns, will kick off on April 18th in Cape Town’s Newlands Stadium. A total of 59 matches will be held in eight cities across South Africa, including Port Elizabeth, Durban, Kimberly, East London, and Bloemfontein.
The tournament is expected to generate business for restaurants, bars, and hotels across the country. Look for the opening and closing matches will generate the most interest with hotels Johannesburg and Cape Town getting a lot of attention. Durban’s Kingsmead stadium will host 18 matches while Pretoria’s Centurion Park will host 16, bringing a lot of athletes and fans to those cities as well.
The opening double header in Cape Town will feature defending champs Rajasthan Royals against the Bangalore Royal Challengers followed by the Mumbai Indians against the Chennai Super Kings. In all, there will be ten double headers during the IPL.
Sony, which is the official broadcaster for the IPL, will telecast matches in Hindi, English, and Bengali. The full schedule of events can be found on the official IPL website.
