Traveling Goa

You have three options when wanting to get around Goa , walking, taxi or experience the locally run tuk tuk . We used a tuk tuk ourselves a few times and thoroughly enjoyed traveling along Goa’s streets this way. But, we then met a really super nice taxi driver and decided to let him take us everywhere for the other destinations we planned for our road trip. The tuk tuk’s are slightly cheaper then hiring a taxi. We did a couple of trips while we were in Goa and the taxi prices were very reasonable. We went to a waterfall that was about a 90 minute drive away from any of the Goa Hotels and the whole journey, which included three other stops, we found to be very reasonable for a whole day out in the taxi.

Our taxi driver also gave us loads of hints on places to see and where we could go to buy cheap items. Like, when we did the waterfall trip we got to feed the wild monkeys . He pulled over on the way there at a tiny market at the side of the road and told us that if we wanted to buy bananas then we were better doing it here and they would charge us more when we got there. We bought a ton of bananas for very little cost to us and when we got to the site where we could feed the wild monkeys, they were selling the bananas almost triple the cost of what we paid back at that little market.

We also found that walking was a fantastic way to discover places, but for some of the places of interest in Goa, I would personally recommend that you would be better off hiring a taxi and hopefully you’ll get just as nice a taxi driver that we had. Someone that knew where they were going and enjoyed telling us about the local culture and points of interest not known on any planned road trip.
