Buses in Brisbane

Posted on September 9, 2009 - Filed Under Travel

“Hey, let’s go to the Hotel Brisbane, grab a bite and head out to Mount Coot-tha and check out the view,” said Martha, who was usually up for anything and was great to travel with. We had a long day charging around beaches annd museums and we would like nothing better than to hand out with a pint and watch the sun set from this famous overlook, from the terrace of the famous Lookout. We decied to take the bus (route 471 as I recall). We liked taking buses. For years when we visited New York City we always took the subway to get around and then one trip we decied to tryy the buses. What a difference. On the bus you are above ground, not down in some dark subway, and you can see the city. And get off where and when you want. We are all about buses now when we travel, and while no subway went to Mount Coot-tha we always feel comfortable taking them. We had been in Brisbane for two days already and had our little holiday time off before the solar energy convention. Seems Brisbane is one of many world communities that is embracing solar power and we were there to meet some local people and organizations and see what was done Down Under. Actually, it was Martha who brought me along, as she was the electrical engineer, and was hoping some day to satrt her own solar power alternative poer consulting business. We recently installed a solar panel to poer the motor on our pool filter in Glendale, Arizona and we had great fun getting our feet wet (so to speak) slowly detaching from the grid and producing real power for our house. We were happy to see photovoltaic cells on the bus stop awning, and knew there was much to learn from our Australian friends.
