Just got home from my local farmer’s market. I always enjoy the experience. Taking the time for a leisurely stroll around my farmers market selecting locally grown fruit and vegetables. It feels good to be supporting local farmers and growers. I can get a wide array of flowers, depending in the season, all types of greens, tomatoes, beans and other fruits and vegies. All fresh fresh fresh, picked that morning in many cases. locally made cheese and yogurt along with eggs and baked goods. There art artists and craters showing a wide range of creations. Pottery plates and pencil holders, drawings and paintings, jewelry, dog biscuits, knitting and spinning and more. I like hearing more and more people are shopping for locally grown foods from the home kitchen to the best restaurants New York City fresh and local are becoming the buzz words. Eating fresh produce is not only delicious but healthy and nutritious too. Shopping at a farmers market connects me to the growers and the farmers that work so hard to bring food to us. Talking with them I am given a heads up on crop conditions and expected maturation dates and therefore plan for future meals knowing what will be fresh and available. I frequently plan mall gatherings around these events. Especially in early summer berry season with all the varieties of berries we get together and make tarts, pies, preserves and jellies. A fun way to celebrate the bounty of nature and enjoy the commentary of friends. Several local bakers are present at the market I go to. One specializes in breads, loves of whole wheat, begets and french loves, another pies and cakes, cupcakes and the other french pastries. These guys are always tempting as my sweet tooth often calls out for them as I pass by attempting to resist. i love my market for the food, arts and crafts people and fun!
