Barcelona is a marvelous place to live, and a marvelous place to visit. There are a wide selection of local attractions and events to choose from. As one of the great hubs of culture and finance in the world, Barcelona hosts a stunning variety of entertainments every day of the week. Fine art is everywhere in Barcelona, and has been for centuries. Some of the greatest artists have passed through here, and some are born here, like the great Joan Brossa. Born in 1919, this Catalan artist is perhaps best-known to the world as a poet, although his contributions are much more than that.

He was one of the main voices behind the Barcelona art movement known as Dau-al-Set, which was named for the seventh face of the die. The aims of the group were based in the elusive and the mysterious. They served as a sort of local chapter of the Dadaist and Surrealist movements, emphasizing the unconscious over the rational, and form over content. Joan Brossa was a key figure here and was extremely active throughout his long life, writing over 70 volumes of poetry and literature, and he was famous for integrating a highly-evolved sense of the theatrical into everything he did. His work is preserved at the FundacĂo Joan Brossa, and would give an excellent introduction to Barcelona.
