Mellow in Melbourne

“Hey, they have lamb salad on the menu. What’s lamb salad?” We were in Melbourne grabbing a bite before heading over to an art museum. I said I’d have a Little Creatures Pilsner at a little place we found out about from the Hotel Melbourne Australia. Claudia really did get he lamb salad, this is the place for lamb we thought, and was blown away. I of course had the fish and chips which went down well with my beer. This Melbourne seems to be a beer drinking kind of place, at least from what we had seen. “Hey mate,” a big blond fellow with yellow teeth said to me. “You here for the cricket match?” he said in great Aussie fashion. “Naw man, I don’t know much about cricket,” I said in my best American fashion. “Here to see a few sights, check out the vibe,” I said. “Well, have you heard of a little place called the Federation Square, check it out, mate.” “Thanks,” I said as he trundled off. Well, we had to go now, and what a recommendation it was. We popped into the Ian Potter Center and saw a tremendous collection of folk art from Australia (of course) and when we were there saw an exhibit of shoes, which delighted Claudia no end. Aboriginal art dominates the center and there are contemporary pieces here too.
Nearby were the the Australian Racing Museum and Hall of Fame (we passed on that one) as well as the Australian Center for the Moving Image where we checked out video and all things image related media and that was great fun. They also have a nice amphitheater and a pop into a cafe got a couple of tall blonds or lattes.
