Temple in Kualalumpur

Posted on September 1, 2009 - Filed Under Travel

Our luggage finally arrived while we were out, and it was nice to have our bags in our room when we returned, as we needed a shower and a change of clothes in the worst way. Our trip otherwise to Kualalumpur from Sydney was pretty uneventful, except for the snoring guy from New Zealand, who, when he was not sleeping, was drinking gin and tonics. I never drink on planes, I just as soon read and drink tea and nap, as was the practice of my gal Tina. Stop at any Kualalumpur Malaysia hotel and you can get insights on where to go and what to see from a local perspective, and that is what we did. We said we wanted something off the beaten track and a little different, and we settled on a Chinese temple. We had not been to China yet and hoped to go next year and it turns out the temple in question was right nearby. Turns out we could relax and hang out there while taking in Kualalumpur’s impressive skyline. We hired a car to take us to the Thean Hou Temple,  and it is the temple to Thean Hou, the Queen of the Heavens. It looks older than it is (built in the 1980′s) and built by Hainan people from of course the island of Hainin, a population that is mainly fishermen and sailing folk. Tian Hou was prayed to to offer protection as they were out to sea. It is doubtful if the local population of Chinese goes to sea anymore, and the people coming in are from all places of origin in Chhinal. We all took off our shoes as we entered and saw a little garden area, and I really like the Longevity god, who carries a long staff and a piece of fruit in his hands. . the twelve animals of the Chinese calendar are represented here as well. We were able to take pictures, and we discreetly took a few, not wishing to offend the worshippers.
