Trip to India Inspires Interest in Hindu

Four years ago Bonnie took a vacation with some friends. They explored various cities in India, and the intention behind the trip was simply to get away from it all and experience something new. One of her friends had always had an interest in India, and encouraged the rest of the group to go. However, while they were there Bonnie found herself going through a personal transition of what felt like a consciousness expansion. When she described it she was afraid it would sound to stereotypically new age related, when she simply meant she believed she was expanding her own personal horizons.
It began one morning when she woke up in her bed in one of the India five star hotels. She was thinking about the temple she had visited the day before and realized that there were many Hindu temples in India. This itself wasn’t any kind of revelation, although she was experiencing it first and not reading about it in a brochure or book. She realized what a tremendous impact they had on the atmosphere of a city or area and thought more about the relevance of religion to society and traditional practices and common beliefs.
This inspired a greater interest in the Hindu religion. Bonnie relayed all of this to her friends at breakfast, and they ended up agreeing on having a greater interest in Hindu and its manifestations into traditional performance and other art forms. They discussed the various texts that they were aware of including the Mahabharata, Ramayana and the Vedas. The friends agreed that traveling did indeed bring about a kind of mental evolution and decided from then on they would choose their destinations based on this perspective rather than their standard plan to escape from it all while on vacation. In addition, they decided to start a book club and have cultural study sessions before their future trips.
