The Markets and Malls of Mumbai

Posted on November 2, 2009 - Filed Under Travel

Every aspect of the cultures of Mumbai are diverse and appear to be in contrast with each other.  However, this contrast only creates a harmony, each of those aspects singing a different note.  This is reflected in the religion, the art, the history and the heritage, and for the tourist looking to take a bit of India home with them, it is reflected in the markets and the malls of Mumbai. The shopping centers of the city, be they the high end stores of the malls, or the stalls of produce, fresh flowers and hand made crafts of the open air markets, they have something to offer every taste, desire, and budget.

So if a traveler is concerned with finances after booking a room in one of the four star hotels (here), Mumbai will offer up the opportunity to save some money while shopping in the smaller, and more quaint market districts.  No one need leave India empty handed.  Those for whom money is no object, or those looking for the highest quality items will find modern malls equipped with all the modern amenities and filled with merchandise.  One such mall is the Heera Panna Shopping Center.  This is one of Mumbai’s most popular complexes.  And if large crowds are a bit too much, this is the place for you, as the main walks are wide open and the stores are large enough to prevent the feeling of being closed in by seas of people.  If this is a concern, the market places are not the place for you, they are always crowded, always chaotic, and always filled with bustling energy.

The Heera Panna was built just over twenty years ago and is famous for the variety of shops, from electronic and computer stores, to shops selling fine jewelry or expensive pieces of modern furniture.  In contrast with the markets, in this mall the prices are set, there is no haggling in this mall.  The mall is however similar to the markets, in that there are many choices for places to grab a bite to eat.  In all, no matter what your preferences are, shopping in Mumbai will provide you to find whatever it is you are looking for, and the opportunity to take a bit back home.
