Deciding on Shutters
Posted on February 22, 2010 - Filed Under Home & Garden
When you first move into a new house there are a lot decisions that need to be made when it comes to decorating; finding and placing the right furniture, choosing the best paint schemes for each room, and adding that personal touch that makes your house a home. One area that also requires a lot of attention but, unfortunately, is often overlooked is the windows. If your new home already has some nice vertical blinds, you can simply find some curtains or drapes to dress up the windows and add the finishing touches to the room. On the other hand if you are in the market for, or are considering, a complete window renovation, perhaps you should consider shutters .
Shutters are often disregarded when it comes to choosing window treatments. They are one of the largest forms of window treatments and can be rather bulky and expensive. On the other hand, they set a very distinct style. Shutters give a room a warm and traditional feel that is hard to achieve with anything else. It is not until you walk into a room with shutters that you realize what a natural vibe they create, in part, because they do not completely block out the sunlight. Instead they can be adjusted to allow just enough light in to make the room more comfortable. Also, because they are made out of wood they are very easy to maintain with simple dusting and an occasional polish.
Before you resort to the same old mini blinds or heavy dusty curtains that are a pain to keep clean, consider going with more traditional shutters.
