Rivers, Ponds and Hiking in Boulder

Setting ones sights on Boulder Colorado for some outdoor activities is an exciting prospect. Check out the Flagstaff Mountain and Summit Nature Center once you are settled into your quality hotel in town . This is a great starting point for learning about the plants, animals and general area. All one has to do is head up 9th Avenue heading west and they will end up there. There is a panoramic view of the city below and there is also a nice outdoor amphitheater, so if traveling with a larger group, this is a great spot to gather everyone up and make plans or give out hiking awards.
If it is hitting boat to river is what one is looking for than check with the Boulder Parks and Recreation they know were the kayak’s are dropped up stream and also offer instruction on how to get it down stream safely. There is Boulder Creek that runs through town as well as near by South Platte River to spend some kayaking time on. All of which are surrounded with majestic mountain scenery, plant life and animals to see nibbling on something in the distance.
Another more gentle water experience awaits near town called Walden Ponds. This is in a wetland area and is filled with lots of fish and birds. Bring along a fishing pole and a great sandwich from —– and get ready to hang about listening to the birds socializing. There are plenty of birds to see while walking along the shoreline. Some of the more common birds found are the red-winged and yellow-headed blackbirds, lots of ducks and geese, as well as gulls. There are about twenty different kinds of bird species that are living here year round. Some have said to have seen some white pelicans. While the fishing line is in the water one will see the ducks swimming by along with the frogs and the turtles. Whether it is hiking, fishing, kayaking or other outdoor activities you are sure to have a great time near the town of Boulder.
