Louisiana Crawfish

There are many different foods that inspire people to theorize how their tastes came to grace the tables of people. The invention of butter and beer were surely the products of a lot of trial and error after a few happy accidents, and pasta came from developments happening in several countries at once. But when it comes to the crawfish, it’s not hard to see how this came to be a staple food in Louisiana. The crawfish were there, and people decided to eat them.
With a little bit of trial and error, and a few happy accidents, butter and beer were found to be rather nice accompaniments, and fresh crawfish on a bed of pasta is quite nice. As long as there have been people in Louisiana, they have been eating crawfish, more than likely, and it’s this convergence of coincidences that brings people here to visit the towns, and check out the lovely hotels. Louisiana is more than crawfish, of course, but it’s not a bad place to start.
Today, there is a huge industry based on these crustaceans, and they bring in millions of dollars every year to the state. For those who come to visit and decide they just can’t get enough, and no one would blame them, there are places like Louisiana Crawfish Company and Louisiana Crawfish who will ship fresh supplies, and also offer a dizzying array of crawfish ephemera.
There’s more, too. In St. Bernard Parish at the end of March every year, there is the Louisiana Crawfish Festival . This is three days of crawfish and crawfish related activities, that includes live music, special rides for the kids, and an event that elects special festival queens. There is a lot to love about the crawfish. It’s rich in protein, low in fat, and the taste can range from simply good to way out of this world. There’s a whole lot to love about Louisiana, too.
